In Autumn of 2025 Manchester’s Mayfield Park will welcome the Avanade Intelligent Garden to its new home.
After the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, the Avanade Intelligent Garden will be relocated to Mayfield, Manchester - a 24-acre regeneration site in the heart of the city and home to the award-winning Mayfield Park. Here, thousands of visitors will be able to experience its innovative design and technology firsthand.
Mayfield Park opened in 2022 and was quickly celebrated as ‘an inspiring park of the future’. It transformed a previously derelict industrial site in the city into a nature-filled haven that encompasses wetlands, wildflowers, wonderful play areas and over 140 trees across a 6.5 acre expanse. It’s a rare gem in the middle of the city and it has gone on to receive a clutch of national awards for its biodiversity, sustainability and accessibility.
The Avanade Intelligent Garden will be relocated within the Mayfield site, metres from both Mayfield Park and Manchester’s bustling Piccadilly Station. Here the garden will be part of an ambitious threshold development that will create a new gateway to Mayfield Park and be part of an exciting new city centre quarter with new homes, shops, offices and entertainment facilities.
There is a natural synergy between the Avanade Intelligent Garden and Mayfield Park. Developed by Landsec U+I, the Park set out to challenge the perception of what a modern urban park could be using scientific research, modern technology and advanced engineering in its development to create a park that would survive the challenges of climate change. The arrival of the Avanade Intelligent Garden will move this on to a new phase serving as a real-world testing ground where its AI-driven technology will monitor selected trees and help manage urban greenery more effectively.
With 40 different species of trees - including a wide range of native species and trees that are adapted for the changing climate – Mayfield Park is proving that urban green spaces can be both beautiful and resilient. The addition of the Avanade Intelligent Garden will further solidify its reputation as a pioneering Park of the Future.
Mayfield Park was made possible by a public-private partnership between Manchester City Council, Transport for Greater Manchester, LCR and the developer Landsec-U+I.
