Digital sustainability

We have aimed to minimize the environmental impact of the Avanade Intelligent Garden by embedding sustainability principles into the tooling, sourcing, building and life of the garden itself.

Why this matters:

Urban trees are among our most powerful allies in the fight against climate change – but they are under threat. The reality is that 50% of urban trees don’t survive beyond 10 years, and 3 in 10 don’t even make it through the first year.  The primary reasons for trees dying include insufficient aftercare, poor planting practices, lack of water, or too much water and damage from pests and diseases.

The Avanade Intelligent Garden aims to support the health and survival of urban trees. Leveraging AI, sensors, and advanced visualizations, to provide users with insights into their trees’ current health, identifies potential issues, and suggests remedial actions.

Our goal is to empower urban tree caretakers with a tool that delivers actionable insights, supporting sustainable, long-term decision-making for the health of the urban forest. This tool could benefit community gardeners, residents tending to street trees, teachers and students in schools, or developers and aftercare teams managing trees across large urban projects.
